I was concerned about seeing the Bronx in the Hifi’s terraced room. At gigs there I always find myself perched on the edge of a step, balancing drinks when people push past. Guitar solos are like burnouts and circle work in utes: something socially awkward men do to impress eachother and the very few women who take notice. They’re a big wank.

The guilty pleasures we all know are shit – you don’t defend them, just play them on your own, smile like a fool and dance around the house. The really bad CDs are the ones that seemed so desperately important once upon a time, those are ones we are happy to sledge in company until someone derides them a little too hard…
