Lenka
This cute Lisa Mitchell-type character hails from Sydney but moved to L.A to make beautiful music. When I first saw her video clip for The Show I knew she looked familiar – this girl made her musical debut with Decoder Ring. She’s very cutesy but does it in a mature way, her breathy voice acting as an ethereal force in her music. Her songs have even made it into TV shows like Greys Anatomy and Ugly Betty.
Cat Stevens in 1977 (the height of his career) gave up his life as a musician, sold all his guitars for charity and turned to Islam. 28 years later in 2006 he finally picked up his guitar again and released an album called ‘An Other Cup’ under his adopted Muslim name Yusef Islam.
But what happened in between? Where did he go?

The up and coming Megan Washington and her band ‘Washington’ have featured on Triple J TV and had many a song played on the JJJ radio station. My favourite so far is either ‘Clementine’ or ‘Ishmael’.

M.I.A is a girl with attitude. Instead of making girly music about love and boys, she presents real messages – incorporating her own background to educate people.

So, you know on your facebook page where it asks you to post what’s on your mind? Sometimes I like to post quotes; quotes that sum up what I’m feeling so I don’t have to get all creative and think.
Yesterday I posted:
“I’d rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not”
- supposedly Kurt Cobain (No-one knows when or where he said this)
No biggie right? Pretty standard quote, used a lot, no need for me to assume anything would come of it.
Jesus, was I wrong!

After spending the weekend at Splendour in the Grass, shelling out $250 for a ticket to see some of my latest favourite bands and suddenly realising a week later that I don’t remember whether I saw some of the bands my friends are claiming we saw, I have to ask the question: are music festivals about the music or just an exuse to have a 3 day bender?
